Disruptive Technology & Digital Cities

The Global Projects Center's  Digital Cities thrust aims to better understand how the most innovative global smart cities are being developed today, and how emerging trends in technologies and lifestyles will shape the way digital cities are developed over the coming decades.  Our Digital Cities Summit, held on October 3-4, 2016, highlighted some of these opportunities and underscored the challenges of privacy protection and cyber security, once many kinds of digital data begin to be assembled and made available for government and commercial use. So there will be both exciting new commercial opportunities, as well as significant research challenges as cities continue to grow in population and cities seek to use the vast new streams of data available to them to enhance the efficiency of urban services and the quality of life for their citizens

GPC’s cross disciplinary research, executive education and outreach in this area bring together faculty, staff and students from multiple departments and schools across the University with leaders from the most progressive companies and government organizations worldwide to generate new knowledge and insights about how companies and governments can incorporate rapidly emerging technologies for data capture, communication, integration, protection and analysis –already changing, disrupting and shaping today’s cities–into their own innovative products and services.
